Junya Watanabe MAN rebuilds Levi’s workwear in tailoring cloth. The fabric is a textured burgundy-and-black check in wool with a little cashmere, soft to the touch with a slight stretch. Mustard-gold topstitching traces the yoke, seams and edges the way denim stitching would. Down the front, black covered buttons give a dressier finish. The two large lower patch pockets are the standout detail: they’re cut to a point and drop below the hem, each with Levi’s arcuate stitched across it in white, and a red Levi’s tab sits on the front. A pointed patch pocket on the chest and a boxy, slightly cropped body complete it. It’s a worker’s jacket in a fabric you’d usually see on a sport coat, and it looks good over a knit or a white tee with dark denim or wide trousers.
