Junya Watanabe MAN takes a Levi’s trucker jacket and makes it in tuxedo cloth. The fabric is a 100% wool tuxedo cloth from Kodama Keori, a mill in Japan’s Bishu textile region known for formalwear fabrics. It’s a plain weave with a deep, matte black finish, supple and light, with a dry, crisp hand. Junya strips back parts of the original trucker, and the stitch lines go back and forth like a rough sketch, picked out in contrast thread along with the arcuate stitching on the chest pocket. Tapes printed with “KODAMA KEORI” and “TUXEDO CLOTH” sit under the collar and at the cuffs. You can wear it as workwear made in eveningwear fabric, over a shirt and trousers or with denim.
