- Commonly known as "jungle fatigues," its official name is "tropical combat uniform"
- It was a tropical field uniform adopted and issued during the Vietnam War
- Made of lightweight, quick-drying cotton poplin, it was designed for the tropical climate
- The design is an improved version of a World War II parachute coat and is generally divided into three types: early, mid and late
- The early model (first model) is characterized by exposed buttons on the pocket flaps. Since most of the fighting in Vietnam took place in the jungle, exposed buttons would get caught on branches or equipment, so the second model was improved to feature hidden buttons that are not exposed outside the flaps. Furthermore, the third model omitted the epaulettes, waist adjustment tabs, and front flap. The later model's material was also changed from cotton poplin to ripstop.
