This hat, which came to be known as "Daisy Mae" in the 1930s after a female character in Al Capp's comic strip "Li'l Abner," is believed to have originated in the early 20th century. During World War I, it evolved into a simpler, more practical design.
Around 1919, the crown construction is thought to have shifted from four panels to six, suggesting a pursuit of a more stable fit and durability.
This version is a reconstruction based on the Quartermaster Corps Tentative Specification dated February 27, 1934.
It strongly reflects the transitional details that led to the M-37, considered the final specification, in 1937.
This season's model uses firm and resilient wool, resulting in a hat with a dry touch.
